what does the mopar name meMopar is the parts, service, and customer care organization within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which includes Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands along with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Mopar has also been previously involved in the designs and builds for a small number of customized vehicles. In recent years, Mopar has assumed responsibility for the full line of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles parts, while also adding a variety of different accessories. All Mopar parts are original equipment manufactured parts for FCA US LLC vehicles.

The term "Mopar" was first used by Chrysler in the early 1920s prior to being introduced as a brand starting in 1937. The name itself was introduced by a committee as a label for antifreeze cans called "Chrysler Motor Parts" antifreeze. It's a small leap to mesh the last two word of that term into one word: MoPar.

At that time The term Mopar became an inclusive word for any Chrysler-built vehicle; Chrysler, Plymouth, Imperial, and Dodge were all recognized as a product of Mopar. Eventually it would be designated for Jeep and AMC vehicles built after Chrysler bought out American Motors Corporation in 1987. Prior to Mopar being introduced in Canada, Chrysler parts were sold under the "Chryco" and "AutoPar" brands. Unlike most of Mopar's manufacturing competitors, Mopar does not have dedicated assembly lines. Mopar does, however, have custom shops where they install customer-chosen accessories on vehicles prior to delivery.

In years past, many racers (as well as a variety of Motorsports series) have been sponsored by Mopar. In 1996, Mopar sponsored Jimmy Hensley No. 30 at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. From 2004-2017 Mopar sponsored the sprint car as well as the No. 9 car, which was driven by Kasey Kahne in the Nextel Cup Series. Mopar still sponsors the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, which is normally held every year in Denver; this is the longest active sponsorship in all of drag racing history.
